Presentation of a well-written, organized, and easy to follow construction manual can be as valuable as a sales tool as it is  an assembly and maintenance instruction guide. Written for reference throughout the life of the structure, a construction manual helps satisfy information needs for green building certification. Whether you are starting from scratch or updating an existing document, we can assist you!

If the full TimberLogic system is in place, the TimberLogic Owner's Manual is a natural progression. This document is generated linking proprietary information documented in TimberLogic Reports, Detail System and Project gathered to complement the TimberLogic Construction Plans. Formatted for printing to an 8-1/2"x11" pdf file, the TimberLogic Owner's Manual is a specific set of instructions for a particular new home.

Legal Advice from NAHB Green

Greenwashing”

Source: Nation’s Building News, Week of Oct. 6, 2008

Before You Build Green: A Primer on Avoiding Liability Pitfalls offers pointers on marketing, contracts, warranties, training and compliance issues — all with an eye toward promoting successful green building projects and limiting exposure to liability.

NAHB warns of inappropriate statements and representations while encouraging education and proper contract language:

Prevent misunderstandings with customers:  Define "green" terminology in contracts. Specify  the rating system as the NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines.

Make sure that "green" components and technology comply with local building codes. Be aware of private restrictions, such as a home owners association architectural review board.

Do not make promises of performance (e.g., a certain level of energy efficiency).  Energy savings depend on occupancy habits and maintenance.

Train trade contractors to properly install green products or components. Assign someone on staff the responsibility for evaluating green materials, systems and technologies, and their installation and use.

Scot Case, Vice President of TerraChoice Environmental Marketing discusses the hidden truth about green claims and greenwashing on WCBS.

Read The Six Sins of Greenwashing.

Researchers enter a big-box retail store to evaluate the green advertising claims of some of the products on its shelves. The results: Of the 1,018 products surveyed, all but one failed to live up fully to their green boasts. Words like nontoxic were used in meaninglessly vague ways. Terms like Energy Star certified were in fact not backed up by certification.
